There are currently only 100 sites across Great Britain which are now part of the AEGON Parks Tennis programme, that offer quality free and affordable tennis opportunities for the local community, and the Rainford Tennis programme is one of them.

The official presentation of the Beacon plaque was made by the Worshipful Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Neil Taylor to Helen Bligh (Chairperson) and John Case (Secretary) from Rainford Tennis Club.

The supporters of the programme Dave Boocock (St Helens Council), Scott Reid (LTA) and Dianne Murphy (St Helens Schools Sport Partnership) were also in attendance along with local councillors Mr David Grice and Mrs Betty Lowe.

Children from the tennis programme were on court showing off their skills to everyone who was at the Spinney Park along with children from Rainford High Technology College, Brook Lodge Primary School, Rainford Church of England Primary School and Corpus Christi Primary School who had been invited to attend the celebrations.

Rainford Tennis Club also presented a special award to Dianne Murphy, Partnership Development Manager for school sport in St Helens, to recognise her contribution to the success of tennis across the borough.

The day was also supported by the Greedy Pig Cafe who kindly provided free refreshments to all those who attended.
