Mayor of St Helens opens new tennis courts in Rainford
(May 18, 2014)The Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Andy Bowden, visited Rainford Tennis Club today to officially open our new courts, as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.
Over 200 people attended the Club’s Open Day, which gave the local community the opportunity to play tennis for free on our magnificent new tennis facilities in the village.There were free sessions of Mini Tennis, Cardio Tennis and Tennis Xpress before the Mayor officially cut the ribbon on the three new courts at the Jubilee Recreation Ground.
There was then an exhibition match, which included Sierra Leone international Samuel Jalloh, Great Britain Wheelchair Tennis player, Tony Knappett and Rainford members David Scott and Maisie Lavelle.
“We would like to thank everyone who came along today to try tennis for the first time” said Club Chairperson, Helen Bligh.
“We also like to thank Sport England, Cory Environmental Trust and the Lawn Tennis Association for funding our new courts and thank St Helens Council and Tennis Lancashire for their support and guidance in helping us grow tennis in the area.”
